Redmond,OR

When I tell people the name of my business, and mention the store I had before I started building my real estate brand, I often mention that my mom, was the Deschutes County Rodeo Queen in 1962. The Deschutes County Rodeo Fairgrounds are in Redmond, 13 miles north of Bend. The Fair and Expo Center was built in 1999. Previously the fairground was closer to town where the Fred Meyer currently is. My mom grew up in Redmond and graduated from Redmond High.

I spent much of my childhood playing in the Dry Canyon near my Grandparents house, riding horses at Smith Rock, and enjoying family reunions at Cline Falls Park. I’ve watched Redmond grow to a two high school town with a great Airport, great views, a charming downtown, and a Central location to Bend, Sisters, and Prineville. Prices in Redmond are generally better for homes. Because prices are more attractive, it’s a good option for someone feeling priced out of Bend. Where the people go, the services go. Restaurants and bookstores, and food cart lots are a plenty! no reservations and no waits are much more likely here than in Bend.

How I remember Redmond…. this is before the Canyon became a public Park to be enjoyed by all.

Redmond also has a better climate for gardening and golfing. With an elevation of just over 3000 ft, it’s slightly warmer, than Bend and Sunriver, with less snow. Ranges open sooner, and the growing season is just slightly longer.

Redmond offers a variety of housing options. New construction homes, Mountain View homes, starter homes, in town 40’s bungalows, and townhomes. And then of course, there are rural properties where you can have horses, chickens, sheep, mini donkeys and more. Redmond has a big sky, mountains in the distance and open high desert Western vibe. Something to consider!
