Gardening for JOY
I brought Marsh along to my end of Summer Master Gardener potluck. The food is always great… these women can cook and grow gardens. It’s been two years now. It was time for him to meet a few of my new gardening friends.
I love this little ceramic vase. Its so easy to fill and leave the rest of the flowers for pollinators!
I’ve grown (excuse the pun) to really love my role as a Master Gardener in my community. It’s taken awhile to even admit I’ve been through the program and maintain my credentials with volunteer hours and on going education. I know enough to know I don’t know much, and my yard is “in process”. I also don’t have the skills to advise a client on what to plant or how to control weeds in a field; but I’m getting better, and more confident.
This used to be an old dead mono culture thirsty brown lawn. I removed the lawn in last summer!
I love that while I learn new things and practice a new skill, I’m also giving back to my community, and taking steps towards a more sustainable healthy enviornment. The more I learn and share about beneficial pollinators and why its wise to choose native, and the best practices for building healthy soil, the better citizen and realtor and friend I am.
Creating a space for a small greenhouse. Uncovering some other gardeners landscape dreams. A water feature pond?
This Gardening thing, is something I plan to take me well into old age. That why I wanted to take Marsh to the potluck. I wanted him to see these healthy women that I come home and talk about. Fit, mature ladies with great tans, and rough hands, that aren’t afraid to bend over and grab a weed with their bare hands and not think twice about it. Just getting the job done!
The optimism and joy that a garden inspires and the patience it takes to get there is something I look forward to tomorrow, and years to come. For now, I take the wins when I get them in the form of a small bouquet, or knowing the name of a plant that is attracting the bees and butterflies so well.
The flag is a new addition. JOY
