Wednesday night at my #alma-mater, Bend High, I attended the perfect mix of Community gathering, ultimate book club, Environmental awareness, meets indigenous teachings with a dose of LOVE. Am I exaggerating? Not really. The crowd greeted the author of @braidingsweetgrassbook Robin Wall Kimmerer, like a rock star and gave her a standing ovation at the end. All day I’ve been pondering the messages I received from the talk. I think my biggest take away was, wake up with gratitude everyday, and ask “What can I do for Mother Earth” today? So I rented a sod cutter, and tomorrow we take out our dry and thirsty lawn… not all of it. I like the drought tolerant low mow wild flower mix that leads to our chicken coop. Just the grass that needs the chemicals and water and maintenance to look good. In its place, native plants that attract birds and bees and butterflies. Thanks @cityofbendoregon for the incentive to get on this big project! The other advice that stuck with me was: 1. Raise good children 2. Grow a garden 3. I’m trying to get more familiar with new neighborhoods. Since 2009 I’ve been more focused on hunting for #vintageboots for @cowgirlcash than I have visiting new model homes. On Tuesday, I toured this cute little house in #StoneCreek. If I was explaining where Stone Creek is to my mom or my elementary school besties I’d say “It’s the Old Trap Club” and they’d know. This neighborhood is near the newest and cutest elementary school called Silver Rail between Reed Market and American Lane and Brosterhous in SE Bend. It’s amazingly central, and close to everything. I was there mid morning and baby stroller pushers and dog walkers were everywhere. There are parks dotted here and there and the cutest neighborhood pool. The back yard is small, but private, with a fence and patio.
